Venezuelan artist Virgilio Trómpiz was born in Coro, Falcón state in 1927. His work is characterized by human figures treated with subtle colors and set against decorative backgrounds of tropical scenery formed by fabrics, curtains, and carpets.  His easily recognizable style would earn him the moniker the “painter of women.”

Throughout his extensive career, Trómpiz was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, and won Venezuela’s National Painting Prize multiple times.  His pieces are held in collections throughout South America and the world.
