Anthony Ackrill applies his classical training at Florence Academy of Art to create still life studies which are both realistic and dramatic. Enlightened Apple is a perfect example of his technique of taking an everyday scene but showing it in an unusual way. Ackrill adds, “My paintings are usually based on reality whether it is something I have actually felt or seen, or something I would like to see.” The richness and depth with which he paints the apple makes the viewer feel it is ready to pluck from the canvas and eat. Yet the apple hovers surprisingly above a hilly landscape. This stylistic painting is striking.
