Anthony Ackrill applies his classical training at Florence Academy of Art to create still life studies which are both realistic and dramatic. Enlightened Whelk Shell is a perfect example of his technique,-taking an everyday scene but showing it in an unusual way – a flying shell if you will. Ackrill adds, “My paintings are usually based on reality whether it is something I have actually felt or seen, or something I would like to see.” The depth and detail with which he paints the shell makes the viewer feel they are floating in the air with it. This stylistic painting is striking.
