A palette of pale pastels creates a soothing backdrop to this St. Augustine landscape as the sun sets. The marsh grasses and tributaries are the playground of the birds basking in a magical golden hue but the eye is drawn to the white buildings and red roofs of the city in the distance. A great example from St. Augustine’s plein air painter, Jean Light Willis, providing a unique view of St. Augustine. Beautifully framed.

A native Virginian, Willis held a Bachelor of Fine Art in Art Education from Richmond Professional Institute. After 30 years as a public school art teacher, she opened an art gallery on Aviles Street, St. Augustine featuring her plein air paintings, pen and ink illustrations, palette knife paintings and abstracts, as well as her sculpture and weaving.
