This print is a collaboration with NYC-Based Photographer and Filmmaker Kai Regan. Shepard used a photograph of a model that Kai shot as the subject of this 2008 illustration and print. The screenprint is a limited edition of 450. When the gun is fired, the rose in its barrel is set to explode. Peace is anticipated when the petals fall to the ground hopefully to re-bloom in a typically Fairey comment on youth experience and public consciousness.
Biography:Born February 15, 1970 in Charleston, South Carolina. American muralist and graphic artist who first gained attention for creating a sticker with a portrait of the towering professional wrestler André the Giant and the word Obey. Fairey is perhaps best known for his iconic 2008 “Hope” poster depicting then U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama. Shepard Fairey’s work combines elements of graffiti, pop art, business art, and activism. His work has been seen in galleries around the world and even museums. It’s often recognized in graphic designing and signature apparel. His work combined street-art activism with entrepreneurial spirit.
