Reuter's landscape in muted hues depicts two boaters enjoying a campfire among the trees. Autumn has robbed the trees of their foliage as a chilling sky warns of colder weather to come. The gold-tone wood frame is nicely carved and in excellent condition.
Helmut Reuter (1913-1985) a 20th century German artist is considered part of the Dusseldorf painters He received his first form of education in the arts from his father Wilhelm Reuter*, a famous landscape painter. Helmut then continued his studies with Alfred Rosenberger, top student in the class of Professor Clarenbach. During his studies, Helmut Reuter traveled through Holland, the South of France, and Spain. His paintings naturally lean towards impressionism and they portray motifs and tell stories of the Rhineland region, north German seashores, the North Sea and Spanish cities.
