Artist: Julie Larson (1898 -1980) Polish)
Title: Woman and a Mandolin
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Size: 29 x 24" Framed
"The Musician" is one of Larson's paintings which is an Homage to Tamara de Lempicka's genre paintings in 1929. It draws on a distinctly traditional theme: allegorical representations of the arts. In this case, music is depicted as a beautiful and elegant, dark-haired woman, absorbed in music-making. The Cubists had made musicians and musical instruments major themes of their work. Julie Larson’s rendering of this iconic Art Deco piece is exquisite.
