This print is a collaboration with NYC-Based Photographer and Filmmaker Kai Regan. Shepard Fairey used a photograph of a model that Regan shot as the subject of this 2008 illustration and print. The screenprint is a limited edition of 450. Fairey’s Peace Guard presents a stylized female figure who symbolizes both protection and resistance. The central figure stands upright in a helmet and uniform, carefully holding a dove in her gloved hands as an international symbol of peace. The rifle beside her is adorned with a rose placed in the barrel; a visual motif that transforms a weapon into a symbol of nonviolence. Her serious expression and militarized attire contrast with the delicacy of the bird and flower, juxtaposing themes of conflict and peacekeeping.
